Leisure Activities

While Summer and Winter offer a whole range of activities for our guests, there are many other activities that families specifically come to this area to take part in. They are mainly geared towards the Summer season, but offer the chance to take part in something different!

Lac de Matermale Watersports Centre
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
Just below Les Angles lies the popular Lac de Matermale where canoes, pedalos, wind surfers and yachts can be hired. All can be hired with safety equipment and instruction where required. The nearby café/restaurant provides a perfect base for watching the activities.

High Ropes Course
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
Just a couple of hundred meters from the lake is the popular high ropes course (Parcours d’Aventures) where kids of all ages can tackle the different obstacles and zip lines threading their way through the Scots Pine trees. All of the courses are graded for difficulty and everyone has a thorough safety briefing before they are allowed to take part. Although the routes are self guided, there is a large security team watching your every movement.

Archery
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
Great for the budding “Robin Hoods”. Michelle runs the archery range based next to the boat hire down at Lac de Matemale.
Horse Riding
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
Take your little ones on their own “Thelwell” type pony around a marked trail in the forest. Our grandsons favourite was Lucky Luke!
Vinyards
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
Although wine has been produced in southern France for many centuries, it is only recently that new wine production methods and competition has forced local wine producers to improve the quality of their wines which are now highly regarded.
The climate of SW France enables a great variety of wines to be produced, from superb sparkling blanquette de Limoulx, traditional Fitou, stunning Corbiere reds as well as wonderful Rivesaltes sweet muscats.
Many of the top vinyards have guided tours to enable their wines to be tasted. Why not combine a vineyard tour with a visit to one of the Cathar castles.
October sees the release of “vin primeur” so come and join the party!
Thermal Hot Spas
Best Times: ALL YEAR ROUND
Visit St Thomas le Bain, Bain de Llo or Dorres. Each of these spas is less than 30mins from Les Angles and enables you to “take the waters”both indoors and outside both in summer and winter.
Bring your swim suit or hire one at the spa. For men, speedo type are required.
Mini Golf & Driving Range
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
For both the family and you budding John Daly’s. Golf clubs can be hired. The mini golf is much more difficult than it looks.
Traine Jaune
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
The world famous “Little Yellow Train” celebrated its centenary in 2011 and travels from Villefranche up the Tet gorge crossing spectacular viaducts in its tortuous route to Font Romeu, the highest mainline station in France.
From Font Romeu it descends the Basse Cedagne to its end in Latour de Carol where it links in to the Toulouse – Barcelona main line route. In summer, a ride in the open carriage provides a great day out especially if combined with a visit to the fortified town of Villefranche.
The train can be used to combine a walk with a visit to one of the local spas.
Cathar Castles
Best Times: JUNE - OCTOBER
Several fine examples of these castles can be found just a short drive away.
